Lorraine Loots is a South African artist best known for her miniature painting series. Art was brought to Lorraine, as it was never her intention to become an artist. Her first experience with the pencil was during high school by attending Art as one of her subjects. Then stopped painting after Art School, and even after two post-graduate courses her career should not be artistic.
However, her side project «365 Paintings for Ants» unexpectedly turned into a full occupation. In this series she painted a miniature every day for an entire year, allowing people to «book» certain dates and thus own the paintings created on these days. The project reached international response – she spontaneously decided to create her first collection in 2014 titled «365 Postcards for Ants».
Loots continued to work on new collections, that were exposed in exhibitions from New York, Los Angeles and Chicago to Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. Works have been featured on CNN, The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, Colossal, Buzzfeed, The Evening Standard and Gizmodo among many others.
Lorraine’s unique signature is grounded in her sentimentality and sensitivity to her surroundings. From the beginning nostalgia became a strong theme in her life – and the idea of specific dates holding personal significance took on new meaning.
